What happened

The committee staged its own song contest with 34 entries, each of them a key change with no song attached. The jury was the whole audience and gave every act 12 points, producing a 34-way tie and a very long encore. Udo Jürgens, Austria's 1966 winner, closed the night at a piano in his white bathrobe.
