What happened
Attendance doubled from the previous year, exactly as projected, because the committee counted everyone twice. Gordon Moore was counted twice as well and did not object. The buffet doubled next, then the band, then the speeches. By midnight the committee understood that exponential growth has a downside, and its name was the cloakroom.
